Book Review: The Redeemers by Suresh Taneja

The Redeemers take readers two decades ahead in future. Author Suresh Taneja narrates the story of 2030. He wrote dream. Dream because in 2030, India became the powerful country of the world. Where Re.1 = 100$.  Mahindra Satyam is on boom and India is a super power.  

This book makes you believe that there is a solution, solution to all the problems. The book is narrated in such a manner that it constantly distinguishes between the corrupted and lost India of 2009 and the Super power and corruption free India of 2030.

This book is an attempt to boost the readers with the spirit of Nationality. The Book is targeting Indian youth and talks about all the problems and issues of current India. Suresh Taneja did a fabulous job by adding things like Anna Hazzare moment and Delhi rape victim incident. He tried his best to make the scenario look real.

The book is about G4 (Gang of Four) Manisha, Yuvika, Vikram and Akshay, who takes the initiative to improve the condition of India in 2009.  It was just another union of all the four friends. They discussed about rampant corruption prevalent in our country. They together think of doing something for their nation.

They say one thought can change the world. Well..! This book is based on this fact only. All the friends plan a campaign against all the problems. These campaigns focus on burning the flames of nationality in the youth. Author very well targeted the school and college going students. It gave me goose bumps at some points, Kudos to the Author.

Basically, this book is a SOLUTION to the problems India is currently facing. Few of them must be implemented strongly.

Talking about Characterization, Author’s characterization skills sucks and maybe author himself knew that he haven’t done the characterization well. That’s why he gave a flow chart of all the characters in the beginning of the book.

He introduced almost 10 characters in first three pages of the book. I got confused on the very first chapter and then looked at the flowchart to clear my doubts.

Concept: The concept is awesome. Author’s thinking is commendable.

Narration Skills: I didn’t like author’s narration skills much. He had a great plot and he could have taken it to an extreme level with his narration. But, his narration degraded the script.

I didn’t feel the spirit ( the feeling I get after reading a good book on Nation or after watching a Prakash Jha movie) of doing something for my country after reading. Author kept narrating the same thing again and again in the campaigns, speeches and interviews.

Purple-Pen Uniqueness Quotient: The plot of the book is definitely the only unique stuff inside the cover. Plot gets 3 out of 5, on the scale of Purple-Pen Uniqueness Quotient.  

Final Verdict:  This book has been re-launched after making few changes. It claims to bring the change. Author is clear about bringing the change in mindset of youth after this book.  This is the only motive of author. If you wish to feel dream-India; free of corruption and injected with morals. Then go for it. It will be a prefect treat for you.

However if you are an avid reader and want some GOOD book to read, then this won’t interest you.

For me, this book earns 2.5 out of 5.
