Tuhin A. Sinha - Interview

An Author and screenwriter  Tuhin A.Sinha -A Man who needs no introduction. With his books like That Thing Called Love, Of Love and Politics, The Captain and The edge of Desire, he has turned out to be one of the most prolific authors of today's Era..

So today PURPLE PEN is exclusively in conversation with the king of Writing Mr.Tuhin A.Sinha.

Q.1. Sir my first question for you is Your First Book- That Thing Called Love was set against the backdrop of Mumbai Monsoons and explores the relationship of contemporary time in the phase of changing morality. How far you relate to this concept as you yourself are a part of the hustle bustle life of Mumbai?

Ans: Well, to do proper justice to each character, it is important for me to think from that particular character's point to view. That, however, does not mean I have to relate with everything the character does. It's a fact that today a consumerist and somewhat selfish approach has crept into every aspect of our existence, including relationships. That's precisely what That Thing Called Love had tried to portray.

Q.2. Sir you co- scripted many of the popular soaps as well Like 'Ye Rishta kya kehlata hai' and 'Afsar Bitiya'. How the idea of writing scripts for daily soaps did strike you?
Ans: In fact, my first show as script-writer was in 2004, much before I wrote my first book. So, the question ideally should have been how did the idea of writing books strike you? The simple answer to this is that writing books give me greater creative freedom, satisfaction and pride than scripts.

Q.3. Politics is always considered a dirty game and writers are considered as the one who can bring changes. Then what changes you would like to bring in the society as a responsible, politically conscious writer?

Ans: Today, the crux of most problems that the country is facing lies in the fact that most of our MPs are unqualified and ill-equipped decision-makers. Until black money is weeded out of the Indian system, you can't expect the truly deserving people to enter politics.Public funding of elections and compulsory voting will go a long way in improving our quality of governance.
In fact my next book, which is a sequel to my previous one, dwells into India's leadership crisis.

Q.4.For a Man it’s very difficult to pen down the emotions of a woman? Your latest venture "The Edge of Desire" has Shruti Ranjan journalist turned politician as the protagonist. So how difficult it was display the right emotions of a girl?
Ans: Quite difficult. But then, crimes against women are an issue that has always disturbed me and I wanted to write a book that dealt with the issue. I am glad women readers have loved my portrayal of Shruti Ranjan's character.

Q.5.Sir what are your views about Blogging ? Purple Pen being one such
rising blog.

Ans: Blogging is a great tool for aspiring writers to hone their writing skills and evolve their thought process. I would recommend it to everybody who aspires to be a writer. Purple Pen is impressive and I wish the team the very best.
