Q.1. Ma'am my first question for you how did writing
happen to you?
Like was it natural or you actually had to do a lot
of hard work to reach here?
Ans: I’ve never
thought I would become a writer. My profession is an International Law, and
though it does involve a lot of paper work, it’s far from anything
supernatural; magic and spells that I write about. I think in my case it was a long
way from reading to writing. One day I realized that I had ideas for my own
book to write. So I wrote the first chapter and then couldn’t stop typing until
I got to the end of my debut novel. I liked the result and decided to show it
to the world. It took me about 7 months to get my book published. What can I
say now? Signing your own books is definitely much pleasurable than reading
Codes and drawing up contracts.
Q.2. How did the idea of releasing your book in India
struck you?
Ans: I always wanted my work to be distributed all over
the world. When it got to the UK and Europe markets, I thought it was time to
promote it on the East as well. Besides, I didn’t have to translate it into any
other language, and I have already found fans in India, who received the ARCs
of my novel. I’m truly happy to realize that people of different nations can
love what I write.
Q.3. Which one Indian Writer you feel has done a great
work in literature?
Ans: In my opinion it’s Salman Rushdie and his attempts
to interpret eastern ideology and values that made the whole world think that
East and West can never become one.
Q.4. One similarity and one difference between the Indian
writers and the writers from the west ?
Ans: I think the
majority of modern writers have one common problem – only a few of them write
books that are really worth reading. I’m far from being an expert, but there
were so many times when I started reading a book and closed it after a few
pages. Personally I like works that attract attention from the very first line.
And I hope mine can do that too.
Q.5. How many books are yet to entertain the readers
of 'Love Lines’?
Ans: There are two novels: Love Lines and Songs of the Wind; and one short story
named From Scratch. It tells about a failed romance between the two subsidiary
characters of LL. It’s a small love addition to the crazy amount of everything
supernatural that my Love lines story consists of. At the moment I’m working on
the next book of the series that will be followed by two more novels. Apart
from that I’m writing a book of poems together with Abhishek Leela Pandey, the
author of Man with the five heads. We are planning to publish this book at the
beginning of May.
Q.6. In the first part of Love Lines Eileen's story
was the centre of all. Which characters will stood up in the upcoming volumes?
Ans: I tried to let
all of the main characters say their word. The first book tells the story from
Eileen’s and Christian’s POVs, and a part of the second book is written from
Evans’ POV which gives the readers a chance to see more of his life; his past
and his family. There are many other characters that play significant role in
the whole story. But Eileen is still the leading one.
7. After Love Lines what are your future endeavors?
Q.8. Which character from Love Lines you feel most
connected to and why ?
Ans:All of them have something from me. They are my
creations after all, they talk the way I do and some even think the same way. Eileen
has my will, and she’s full of determination when it comes to something she
wants so bad. Christian shares my passion for music and playing the piano. Evan
is a walking contradiction of everything that I would and wouldn’t dare to do
or say. Christian’s and Eileen’s parents are the reflections of those ideas and
things that I cherish in my own family. Friends – is what I see or would like
in my own friends. Enemies – is what I fight with in my everyday life.
Q.9. Which Indian Book you have read so far and liked
it too ?
Ans:Once I read a book of Aravind Adiga named The
White Tiger. People were talking about this work, but I would have never
imagined that it would be so impressive. I think it’s a perfect combination of
real life and its cruelty, humor and deep feelings.
Q.10. Thank you Ma'am for your valuable time. Would
you like to share something with your fans out there ?
Ans:First of all I’d
like to say thanks for the opportunity to be interviewed by you. It was my
pleasure to answer the questions. I hope my books will won the hearts of
Indians and I, in turn, promise to do my best to write as many great books as I
will be able to.
